The 1980s
Turbo power, Group B rallying, and the birth of modern performance. The Ferrari F40 broke 200 mph and became the last car Enzo Ferrari personally approved before his death. Audi's Quattro revolutionized all-wheel drive in competition, proving that four driven wheels belonged on tarmac. Group B rallying pushed technology to lethal extremes before being banned in 1986 after fatal accidents. The BMW E30 M3 dominated touring car racing across the world with a high-revving four-cylinder. The Testarossa became the poster car of an era defined by excess, ambition, and engineering without compromise. Porsche built the 959 as a technology laboratory.
