The 2010s

The hybrid revolution arrived. LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder formed the Holy Trinity, proving that electrification could enhance rather than diminish performance. Each used a different hybrid architecture, and each was faster than any previous road car from its manufacturer. The Lamborghini Aventador carried what may be the last naturally aspirated V12 in a production supercar. BMW's i3 and i8 previewed the electric future with carbon fiber passenger cells. Turbocharging became universal. The decade ended with regulations tightening and combustion and electrification learning to coexist.
