Supercharged

Supercharging uses a mechanically driven compressor to force air into the engine, delivering instant boost without turbo lag. The Mercedes Kompressor engines made the technology accessible in the 1990s and 2000s. Unlike turbocharging, supercharger response is immediate because it spins proportionally to engine speed. The trade-off is parasitic loss, but the linear power delivery and distinctive whine have earned a devoted following.
